ELIGE MADERA Reflections on Wood Week 2021 Every year, CORMA's Madera 21 organizes the main wood-related event in the country, but this time, due to the pandemic, it was held in digital format. Several projects from different areas were presented, mainly linked to architecture, design, engineering, innovation and entrepreneurship. The purpose of this great virtual convention is to be a showcase for all the possibilities of wood in terms of sustainability, thereby strengthening an identity and culture related to this material domestically, but also becoming a reference for the rest of Latin America. Every year, CORMA's Madera 21 organizes the main wood-related event in the country, but this time, due to the pandemic, it was held in digital format. The purpose of this great virtual convention is to be a showcase for all the possibilities of wood in terms of sustainability, thereby strengthening an identity and culture related to this material domestically, but also becoming a reference for the rest of Latin America. As with previous Wood Weeks, the main theme was the bioeconomy, which is based on trees and wood: two essential concepts for trapping and storing CO2, thus contributing to mitigating greenhouse gases. This time, we were part of the innovation used in the development of wood, advances that have occurred in engineering and prefabricated construction systems, as well as biomaterials, textile fibers, and bioenergy, among others. The event also featured various activities such as: competitions; international seminars on architecture, design, and engineering; technical talks and business roundtables for entrepreneurs and networking. The target audience for this event was mainly professionals and students in the aforementioned areas, as well as builders and real estate developers, researchers, academics, users and end customers of wood. At CMPC, we support and collaborate with this event so we had a "Niuform" stand: a project focused on wood and its value in terms of sustainability in construction. We also participated in several talks related to this project and sustainability issues. David Catta, CLT expert from CMPC, spoke about the experience of international models for the national ecosystem while Juan Pablo Pereira, Commercial and Development Manager of CMPC Wood Products, and Nicolas Perez, Mass Timber Development Manager of CMPC Wood Products, focused their talks on Niuform and the industrialization of Mass Timber in Chile.
