Envisioning a revitalized and greener Santiago, the Territoria real estate agency is presenting a proposal for the former Enel building, located in the heart of the historic downtown area. The project aims to promote the sustainable renewal of the capital’s city center. Revitalization Project Almost a year after Territoria’s agreement to acquire the former Enel building from the energy company, anticipation for the new real estate project hasve been growing. The 17-story building at Santa Rosa 76 has been a part of downtown Santiago's historical landscape since 1968. While the exact layout of the site is yet to be finalized, the real estate company’s work within the 9,500-square meter area will follow specific guidelines. The conservation and restoration of the original structure, designed by National Architecture Prize winner Jorge Aguirre, aim to preserve its historical value. The space will be used for an innovation and entrepreneurship center. In a bid to achieve carbon negativity and contribute to a greener Santiago, the construction of wooden towers to complement the original structure is under consideration. Sustainability will be a priority in the development of the project, envisioning the incorporation of clean energy, the reuse of gray water for irrigation, and a zero-waste program. The project will encompass residential buildings and a diverse range of retail amenities, including a shopping mall and an entrepreneurial marketplace focused on food, retail, and services. Mercado Santa Rosa aspires to become a sustainable cultural and architectural landmark. It will feature publicly accessible vertical green areas, serving as meeting and relaxation points for both residents and visitors. The purpose of the project is to stimulate the revitalization of the neighborhood, creating a welcoming environment and supporting aditional initiatives with this common objective in the coming years. As stated on their website, Territoria "strongly believes in the public commitment to revitalize the downtown area, which is currently in poor condition. If we want to have a thriving city, we must reenergize its historic center, which we are convinced will begin to happen soon, and we want to be there when it does". We eagerly anticipate witnessing the final result of this ambitious wooden project, which promises to respond the community’s needs and serve as an important example in terms of sustainability and connectivity.
