ELIGE MADERA A 9-Floor 100% Wooden Building to be the Tallest of its Type Ever Built in Catalonia Sorigué is a Spanish company with an extensive track record in sustainable construction. Their work involves optimizing the energy, acoustic and thermal efficiency of the buildings, while also generating self-consumption energy through the installation of photovoltaic panels. They also carry out industrialized construction projects, meaning the construction system reduces the environmental impact due to the efficient use of materials and factory production of structural elements. Sorigué is a Spanish company with an extensive track record in sustainable construction. All these achievements have allowed the company to position itself as one of the best in the country, even more so now that the news has broken that they will construct the tallest wooden building in Catalonia. Sorigué (through its companies Constraula and Acsa, Obras e Infraestructuras) will construct two social housing buildings made of cross-laminated timber (CLT) with its industrialized construction system. The first will have 42 residences distributed over 8 floors, while the other will be the tallest wooden building in Catalonia, with 40 residences distributed over 9 floors. The residences, which will be almost square in shape, will have balconies with solar protection for the summer, verandas for the winter and a renewable energy system using solar panels. They’ll also have a central area to improve the building's energy performance by increasing cross ventilation and enhancing brightness of the residences facing the interior. The industrialized construction system that will be used in the project will have many benefits such as its sustainability, low waste generation, and almost zero water consumption. This system has been used repeatedly by the company in the current context of the sanitary crisis, where the company faced many challenges with regard to the construction and expansion of different sanitary facilities in a limited period of time.
