The House to House Recycling program was an initiative that began in 2020, with a first logistical stage, where the behavior of 50 homes in the five communities mentioned above were observed; 1.3 tons of waste were collected in a period of two months. Ana Robles, president of the Neighborhood Council of Villa La Granja de Mauchén, says: "before, we used to throw it into the landfill, which is about to fill up, and there are many things to do. It is a benefit for the district". Meanwhile, for Felipe Alveal, assistant manager of Corporate Affairs at CMPC, one of the challenges was to balance the safety of the neighbors and care for the environment, in the sense that they could recycle, but without the need to come into contact with other people. In his words: "We wondered if it was the right time, but we were confident that it was possible to balance care for people in the context of the pandemic with care for the environment. And the results we have seen show that it was a good decision". Kykklos is in charge of designing the best route to go through the different slums to collect the recycled materials from the neighbors. What is expected for the future of this program is to strengthen the processes behind recycling, for example, installing collection points in the municipalities, establishing conversations with local managers who can promote this activity, as well as incorporating a culture around recycling, in order to generate real changes that can remain over time and thus advance in this challenge.
